Chungnam Korean Culture

The Independence Hall of Korea collects, preserves, displays, and researches Korean historical documents and relics from the past to the present, focusing on the independence movements during the Japanese colonial period. The Independence Hall officially opened on the anniversary of Independence Day in 1987 thanks to donations from the public.

The Korean Natural History Museum showcases Korea's plants, animals, insects, and rocks. It includes exhibition halls, a café, and a theater. The main attractions are the massive dinosaur fossils and replicas. Visitors can also explore natural rocks, minerals, and gemstones from the Korean Peninsula, as well as various fossils and mummies from different eras. Hands-on activities include creating imaginary dinosaurs and making bracelets with gemstones.

The Former Gongju-eup Office, a two-story Western-style red brick building built in 1923, stands as a symbol of Gongju's modern history. Its interior showcases old photographs of Gongju, antique furniture, and a model of the current city. It also serves as a central venue for the annual Gongju Culture Night, held every fall, featuring performances, hands-on activities, and a flea market.

Located in Gongju, Chungcheongnam-do, Seokjangni Museum was established in September 2006 to preserve and introduce the culture of the Old Stone Age. There are a variety of exhibitions of relics excavated from the Seokjeong-ri area as well as educational programs available for visitors to learn more about the Paleolithic Period. The museum is divided into permanent exhibitions, planned exhibitions and outdoor exhibitions. Overall, visitors can understand the history better through the exhibition halls, prehistoric park, and the Archaeological Site in Seokjang-ri, Gongju.

Chusa Memorial Hall opened in 2008, holds works of Chusa Gim Jeong-hui including his arts, epigraphy, calligraphy and more. The memorial hall preserves and exhibits Chusa Gin Jeong-hui's works to show future generations about his achievements.

AMI Art Museum is a private art museum opened in the previous Yudong Elementary School building. The museum aims to preserve traditional culture and the current natural environment through exhibiting local architecture, culture, customs, and lifestyles as they are. The museum breaks away from simple exhibitions through the creation of new content to revitalize museum culture.

Designed to mimic the traditional kilns of the Baekje period, the Baekje Cultural Museum is a unique space that blends historical elegance with immersive exhibits. It showcases five key masterpieces: the historic Baekje kiln site that's over 1,500 years old, exquisite blue tiles, an evocative painting of Choi Ik-hyeon's exile, an intricate rubbing of the Confucius statue, and a resplendent golden turtle. Additionally, the museum offers a variety of interactive centers like a gold mine exploration area, an agricultural culture center, an exhibition hall that transports viewers back to the 1960s. There are also Han Sang-don Memorial Hall, Yoo Sang-ok Donation Room, and Jeongseung Park. On weekends, the museum becomes even more lively, offering hands-on activities such as pottery and cup making, as well as the chance to dress in traditional Baekje attire.

Nblgaok is a cultural complex located in the old city center of Cheonan. It contains a bookstore, café, restaurant, a meeting place, a ceramics workshop, and a guesthouse. The first floor has the bookstore [Bobuart] and the café [Dongyang Chwimi]. The second floor has the [Wongeori Sikdang] and the rental space [Binkan]. The third floor is home to the ceramic workshop [Hwamyodo], and the fourth floor has the guesthouse [Maroco Stay].

The traditional Korean architectures designated as valuable cultural assets scattered throughout the nation are on display at a one-tenth or one-fifth scale in this museum for the purpose of promoting and passing down the history of Korean architecture.
